The SafetyWorks! Summer Safety Institute for Educators helps school personnel improve safety in the school environment and provides tips for teaching teens to work safely.
2008 Summer Safety Institute - Presque Isle Maine
The 2008 Summer Safety Institute will be held June 16-20, 2008 at the Northern Maine Community College 33 Edgemont Drive Presque Isle, ME. Housing is available on campus and information will be sent to you following registration.
Topics
The class covers a variety of topics including: OSHA regulations, personal protective equipment, chemical safety, hazardous materials, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, bloodborne pathogens, electrical safety, noise, legal liability of teachers, machine guarding, hazard identification and control, and techniques for teaching safety.
Who Should Attend
Secondary and post-secondary teachers and administrators, school nurses, and facilities managers with responsibility for the safety and health of learners and school employees.
Cost and Registration
You may take the Summer Safety Institute for Educators for academic credit or not for credit. Everyone who completes the course will receive a 30-hour OSHA general industry card. If you take the course for credit, you will receive 3 credits from the University of Southern Maine. If you choose not to take the course for academic credit, you can elect to receive 4.5 continuing education units from Northern Maine Community College. Cost includes refreshments, lunch, books, and materials.
